Sarawak showcases digital, space economy ambitions at IAC 2025 in Sydney

KUCHING (Oct 2): Sarawak is making its mark at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2025 in Sydney, Australia, with a high-level delegation led by State Utility and Telecommunication Minister Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi.
The annual congress, running from Sept 29 to Oct 3, is the world’s leading global space event, bringing together heads of space agencies, industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to foster collaboration in space exploration, technology and innovation.
According to the State Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication, Sarawak’s participation highlights its growing role in the digital and space economy, particularly in satellite technology, digital connectivity and indigenous data governance.
“This participation is aligned with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) which emphasises science, technology, and innovation as key drivers of sustainable growth,” the ministry said in a statement.
While in Sydney, the Sarawak delegation held strategic engagements with the UAE Space Pavilion, the Australian Space Agency, the Western and South Australian state governments, the Türkiye Space Agency, the Korea Aerospace Administration, and the European Space Agency.
High-level discussions focused on potential partnerships in satellite technology, data governance, aerospace research, training and capacity building – underscoring Sarawak’s aspiration to secure a place in the global digital and space economy.
Sarawak’s involvement at IAC 2025 is seen as a long-term commitment to innovation, sustainability and international cooperation, while strengthening its position as a forward-looking digital economy hub in the region.
